About HangoverStan

Welcome to HangoverStan. We’re your guide to beating hangovers with real science—and a side of humor. Nobody wants to spend a great morning feeling like death warmed over. That’s exactly why this site exists.

What Is HangoverStan?

Here’s what makes HangoverStan different from the typical hangover advice you find online:

  • Science-backed tips based on real research, not bro-science
  • Practical recovery methods that work in real life
  • Honest product reviews—so you know what’s worth buying
  • The science behind hangovers in plain English
  • A fun approach to a very unfun topic

Why We Built This

Most hangover advice online falls short. Medical sites can’t name specific products or get too practical. Reddit is packed with conflicting tips, half of which have no science behind them. We fill that gap.

You get real research plus honest product picks—without the lecture or the watered-down advice.

The name has three layers. The suffix -stan means “land of” in Persian. In Gen Z slang, stan means you’re a huge fan. And Stan is your friendly guide out of misery. When you’re deep in a hangover, you’re stuck in Hangoverstan. We help you escape faster.

Our Mission

Our mission is simple. Help you prevent hangovers before they start and bounce back faster when they hit anyway—all while making an unfun topic worth reading.

We think hangover info should be:

  • Science-based: Every claim backed by real research
  • Practical: Advice you can actually use
  • Honest: We tell you when something doesn’t work
  • Accessible: Written for real people, not doctors
  • Helpful: Here to give real value, not just rank on Google

What You’ll Find Here

Hangover Prevention

Our prevention guides cover what to do before and during drinking to cut down on next-day pain. That includes the right foods to eat, how to stay hydrated, and which supplements are worth taking ahead of time.

We explain why each strategy works—not just what to do. Understanding the why makes it easier to stick with.

Hangover Recovery

Our recovery guides help you bounce back when prevention didn’t work—or wasn’t an option. We cover morning-after food, how to rehydrate the right way, and what actually helps versus old myths.

We focus on fixing the root causes of a hangover, not just masking the pain.

Product Reviews

This is where HangoverStan really stands out. We review hangover supplements, electrolyte drinks, and recovery aids. Then we tell you which ones are worth your money.

Our picks are based on ingredients, science, and real user feedback—not which products pay us the most. See our Affiliate Disclosure for how we handle that.

The Science

Alcohol messes with your body in several ways. It creates toxic byproducts, sparks inflammation, drains your fluids, and wrecks your sleep. Once you understand the why, you make smarter choices.

Our science section breaks all of that down in plain terms. No medical degree needed.

Tools and Calculators

We’re building out tools to help you plan ahead. Think BAC calculators, hangover risk tools, and hydration guides. These help you apply the big-picture advice to your own situation.

Who This Site Is For

HangoverStan is for social drinkers in their 20s through 40s who want to enjoy a night out without paying for it the next morning. That includes people getting ready for a big event, people recovering from last night, and people who just want to understand what’s going on in their body.

We’re not here to help anyone drink more. This site is about smarter choices and faster recovery for people who drink socially and occasionally overshoot the mark.

We also want to be straight with you about something. If drinking is starting to feel less like a choice and more like a need, this site isn’t the right tool for that. There’s no hangover cure for dependency — only real support. We’ve put together a resources page for anyone who might be in that place, and we mean it sincerely.

Who’s Behind This

John Herwick started HangoverStan. He’s a former Marine Corps officer with over two decades of service — and ten years as an enlisted Marine before that. He noticed a gap between dry medical advice and the kind of practical, product-specific guidance people actually want. So he built the bridge.

Part of leading Marines means being responsible for their welfare — all of it. Over his thirty years of service, John conducted alcohol-related line-of-duty investigations and had more than a few difficult conversations about what happens when drinking stops being recreational. That experience shapes how this site approaches the subject. HangoverStan is built for people who enjoy drinking socially. It’s not a workaround for something more serious, and John takes that line seriously.

John brings the same research mindset from his military career to every article on this site. He’s done the reading so you don’t have to. Learn more on the About John page.

A Few Important Notes

We’re Not Doctors

HangoverStan is not medical advice. Nothing here diagnoses a condition or replaces a talk with your healthcare provider. If you’re starting a new supplement or have health concerns, check with a professional first. See our full Medical Disclaimer for more.

We Don’t Promote Heavy Drinking

The best way to avoid a hangover is still to drink less. This site is for people who know that and sometimes slip up anyway.

Your Results May Vary

Hangover science varies from person to person. Your age, genetics, and health all play a role in how bad your mornings get. Our advice is based on research and common patterns, but your experience may differ.
